Change and transitions are constant. Time and space are in flux. Life has a habit of getting in the way of life.

Business owners, customers and suppliers change and transition. Trusts gain and lose trustees. Real estate is taken and encroached. Employees change employers. Loved ones move to a home health care or assisted living arrangements. Even law firms and law practices end. 

In May of 2007 my law firm, Rider Bennett ceased to practice law and I transitioned my practice to the firm eventually called Oberman Thompson. At the end of last year, Oberman Thompson ceased to practice law and I again transitioned my practice, this time to my own firm called James L. Forman Law, LLC.

For my entire law career, I have helped others navigate their ways through changes and transitions. Until recently, I did most of this through business and commercial litigation. Today, I do it through advice, counsel, drafting, negotiating, and occasionally mediating. Most of the work concerns some type of contract, agreement, instrument or document. 

I approach matters in thoughtful way. This means with respect. This means with thinking. This means I analyze, strategize, implement the strategy, and then after implementation evaluate the outcome. I concern myself with the who, what, where, when, how and why. I focus my communication not only on the content but on how it is communicated. 

I rely on my various experiences with business and commercial litigation, risk management (business formalities, contracts, insurance, and operations), non-profit board work, teaching, speaking with groups, mentoring, bar association and volunteer work, personal and family matters, including health and financial.
